About Us

Why We Started

The Lakeside District Association began as a group of business owners meeting together to promote their businesses and has recently changed focus to a more community directed agenda. We currently sponsor several Lakeside events including Spring Into Lakeside and Holidays in Lakeside. We also fund the summer concerts at McGraft Park. The beautiful planters in Lakeside and the new Lakeside pocket park are also LDA projects. Our mission is to bring public awareness to the Lakeside area through beautification, education and promotion of area events. We are currently a Michigan non-profit corporation with a Federal 501(c)(4).

The Pocket Garden is our current and largest project to date. It is located in the lot adjacent to Ghezzi's on Lakeshore Drive in Lakeside. From a little seed of an idea, donated use of a lot, support from the Muskegon Community Foundation and many volunteer hours, the garden has bloomed and is always being updated. The focus of our garden is Michigan genome perennials. This creates a garden of plants that prosper in Michigan’s climate and promotes Michigan’s environmental heritage. It also creates a region of green space and a community area for gathering, picnicking and enjoying Michigan’s abundant flowers.

We are looking for patrons to assist us in finishing this project with new benches, lighting, funding for future maintenance.
